Biography
Daniel van Huffelen is born in the year 1981 in Epe, a small village in the middle of Holland. At the age of 13 he takes his first piano lessons and starts playing the guitar, bass guitar, drums & singing by himself. A year later he begins performing in some local pop groups and a big band.
In 1999 he starts studying double bass at the ‘Conservatory of Utrecht’ with Harry Emmery, also enjoying weekly lessons with Bert van den Brink.
Two years later he enters the ‘Royal Conservatory of The Hague’, where his main teachers are Hein van de Geyn & Frans van der Hoeven.
During his second year Daniel decides to do an exchange (Erasmus) in Barcelona at “L´Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya” (ESMUC), where he studies with Horacio Fumero, Albert Bover & Jonathan Camps. After this fertile period he stays a year more to experience Barcelona’s musical life.
In September 2007 Daniel graduates his study 'Double Bass Jazz' at the ‘Royal Conservatory of The Hague’ and continues a ‘Master in Composition’, for which 2 years later he receives his diploma.
Autumn 2009 Daniel gets a scholarship to go to New York and take double bass & composition lessons with the bassists Larry Grenadier, Scott Colley, Ben Street, Thomas Morgan & the composer Edward Green.
In 2010 Daniel moves to Amsterdam to enlarge his musical circle and he starts teaching music in an elementary school and playing in new different groups.
In 2013 he goes for 2 months to Mumbai, India, to study Hindustani classical music with Dhruba Ghosh. Taking lessons on sarangi, an Indian bowed string instrument.
During 2013 & 2020 Daniel goes to Mexico, Turkey, Morocco, Italy, France & Hungary to perform and give workshops.
Recently Daniel is playing in various groups such as 'Amsterdams Andalusisch Orkest', 'BombaNaranja', 'Balcony Players', 'Radio Acoustic' , ‘Baragan’ sand much more...
